FINNEY, Joseph Sidney May 1, 1929 - February 3, 2009 Sid Finney passed away on February 3, 2009 at the age of 79 years. He was born in Ireland and immigrated to Canada with his family at a very young age. He was heavily involved with many sports in his youth, leading to a career in professional hockey. He played in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks and in the Western League, many years with the Calgary Stampeders, with stops in St. Louis, Edmonton, Indianapolis and Portland. He concluded his playing career with the Senior League Drumheller Miners, and winning the Allan Cup. After his hockey career, he was self-employed for many years. Sid married Lois in September 1954 and they remained together until her passing in 2004. They resided in Calgary all their lives. Sid is survived by his three children: Doug (Laurie), Colleen (Tim) and Jane (Van); three grandchildren: Scott, Craig and Lindsay; his brother Jim, and his family, and many nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his wife Lois and his parents, James and Sarah Finney. At Sid's request, there will be no Funeral Service. Sid will be missed by all who knew him.
