VAN SPRONSEN, Simon C. - Surrounded by the love of his family, Simon passed away unexpectedly in Florida, on February 18th, 2009 in his 79th year. Simon is remembered by his loving wife Maaike (née Scheffel) and their ever-growing family. Beloved father to Jamie, Simon & Audrey, Annette & Derek McGaughey, Jason & Thanh, Mark & Asia, and daughter-in-law Wilma. Grandfather to Steven & Liz, Michelle & Shane, Holly, Jennifer, Kaitlin, Stephanie, Ryan, Kira, Leeanne, Aurora, Victoria, Adam and Emily. Great Grandfather to Mason and Evan. Dear brother to Sophia (Fie), and uncle to her children, and their families, Marion, Loes and Crystal in Holland. Also kindly remembered by Rennie & Andy Dykgraff, Carrie & Jack Verkade, Jim & Ann Scheffel, Mina & Wally Vanderstelt, Frank & Elly Scheffel, 17 nieces, nephews and spouses, and 25 great nephews, nieces and spouses. Pre deceased by his brother Wim and his sister Nelly. Friends and family will be received at the DENNIS TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford, Monday February 23rd, 2009, from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. A “Celebration of his Life“ will be held on Tuesday February 24th, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. Simon lived his life with great respect for the “Ten Indian Commandments“ always “giv[ing] assistance and kindness wherever needed“ and 'do[ing] what [he] knew to be right,“ he “treat[ed] the earth and all that dwell thereon with respect.“ Simon Van Spronsen's whistling, laughter and wit, coupled with his desire for knowledge and his joy for life, will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
