BURNS, Jean (Public Servant, retired, National Energy Board) With great sadness we announce the passing of Mary Ethel Jean Burns on Thursday, February 19, 2009. Jean was the eldest daughter of the late Thomas and Ethel (Hibbard) Burns. She was born in Ottawa, raised in Brockville, Ontario and subsequently attended Business School in Ottawa. This was followed by a fulfilling career in government service, notably at the National Energy Board. Over the years Jean made many close and lifelong friends. She loved to travel, and enjoyed several memorable overseas journeys with her sister-in-law Joan. She was an avid golfer for many years at Manderley Golf Club and loved playing bridge at every opportunity. Jean was predeceased by her siblings Ray, Bob and Mary, sister-in-law Rita Burns and brother-in-law John Campbell. Their children were all very fond of Aunt Jean and will miss her smile, her independent spirit and her wealth of family stories. Sadly mourning her passing are sister-in-law Joan Burns, Ray's children Michael, Bob, Patricia, Joanne and Monica; Bob's children Ann, Maureen, Tom, Don and Janet; and Mary's sons Jim and Bob. Jean will also be sadly missed by great-nieces and nephews: Jarrett, Jodie, Karen, Jonathan, Matthew, Charlotte, Heather, Mark, Olivia, Braden, Thomas, Michael, Daniel and Emma. At Jean's request there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers you may make a memorial donation to Our Lady of Fatima Parish, the Canadian Wildlife Federation or the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the staff in the ICU at Queensway Carleton Hospital for the gentle and professional care provided. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church on Monday, February 23 at 11 a.m. followed by interment at Notre Dame Cemetery. Published in the Ottawa Citizen from 2/21/2009- 2/22/2009
