Olga NELSON

KINTON, Olga "Sue" (nee Nelson) 1917 - 2009 Beloved mother of David, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2009 at the age of 92 years. Born in Calgary on February 26, 1917, Sue was raised on a farm near Standard, Alberta. Although her family came first, Sue was an avid competitor winning many Provincial and Canadian lawn bowling championships. Bingo was one of her favourite forms of entertainment. Sue loved to travel, whether the trips were across Canada or to the many countries she visited around the world. Sue was active in the Royal Canadian Legion Women's Auxiliary and West Hillhurst Community Association. Besides her loving son David (Betty Lou), Sue is survived by her daughter-in-law Elizabeth (Liz); seven grandchildren, Karen Kinton, Terry (Andrew) Boone, Lisa McWhir, Pam (Warren) Christie, Carl, James and Michael Kinton; three great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Thelma Nielsen, Sharen Schofield and Helen Nelson and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Clare (1944), son Charles (Chuck) 1975, brothers Donald, Leslie and Howard Nelson and one sister, Astrid. After the loss of her husband, a WO1 with the RCAF, who was killed when Sunderland DD851 crashed near Invergordon, Scotland on November 26, 1944, she became very independent and took on many tasks alone. Sue was very artistic and enjoyed working with her hands. The family would especially like to thank the great caregivers on 3 South and the Lodge at the Bethany Care Centre, Calgary. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethany Care Centre (916 - 18 A Street N.W., Calgary, AB, T2N 1C6) or charity of your choice.
