HICKS, John Gerrie - It is with sorrow that the children of John Gerrie Hicks announce the passing of their father on Tuesday, September 28, 2004, in his 71st year. John died in Peterborough Regional Health Centre after a short battle with heart disease; loving father of Lori (Brian Baker), Mike (Karen), Bill (Beth), Chris (John Benoit), Allan (Kerri), Marilyn (Doug) Olsen, and Judy (Steve) Hull; caring grandfather of Tammy (John), Jenn (Dave), Jeff (Carin), Will (Beth), Dave (Shannon), Bryant, D.J., Tyler, Kate, Ben, Andre, Lyndsi and Tanner; great-grandfather of Isabelle, Holly, Jeremy, Joshua, Hayden, Jeremy and Courtney; brother of Noranne (Don) McCormack, Elizabeth Lowe, and David; predeceased by parents Edwin Roy and Jane (Gerrie) Hicks of Brantford, and daughter Cathy. John worked for Ontario Hydro for many years out of the Brantford and Hanover areas, he spend the latter part of his life working at the Bethany Hills School in Bethany Hills, Ontario and will be remembered by staff and students around the world; he was a proud Canadian and an active Royal Canadian Legion member. During the past decade he has pursued a silent crusade in collecting and distributing much needed medical supplies and other necessities for needy Cubans. Family and friends will be received at the HILL & ROBINSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 30 Nelson Street on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Monday at 1 p.m. with cremation to follow. A Memorial Service for John will be held at the Bethany Hills Schools Chapel at a later date.
