McCASHIN Maureen Catherine (nee Carroll) 1946 - 2006 Maureen McCashin passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2006. Maureen is survived by her husband, Bernie; her son Casey of Vancouver; her son and daughter-in-law, Pat and Frauke of Mill Bay, British Columbia; and her son Brendan and his girlfriend Diana Baier of Calgary. Maureen is also survived by her brother Mike Carroll of Weyburn, Saskatchewan and her brother Tim Carroll and his wife Dawn of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and her niece Jessie Lloyd of Victoria. Maureen was a teacher. After graduating from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon and teaching for a short time in Regina, Maureen and her husband Bernie moved to Calgary, via Kingston and Toronto, in 1973. Maureen then began her long teaching career with Rocky View School Division, first at Springbank, then after a hiatus to raise her family, at Conrich, Elbow Valley and most recently, Banded Peak in Bragg Creek. Maureen was immensely rewarded in her teaching career, in equal measure with her students. Maureen loved being in the classroom, she loved to see her students succeed, she loved coaching athletic teams and she loved the friendships that developed with co-workers and parents. Maureen enjoyed designing classroom projects that involved the active participation of her students in the learning process. She was creative and innovative and willing to depart from traditional approaches. Maureen's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and nursing assistants at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and the community palliative care team, all of whom cared for Maureen with such compassion during her illness. A Service of Remembrance for Maureen will be held on Monday, April 24, 2006 at 3:30 p.m., at the Calgary Winter Club (4611 - 14 Street N.W., Calgary - Social Entrance). In memory of Maureen and in lieu of flowers, friends may make a contribution to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 - 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2. FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORIUM. Telephone: 297-0888.
