COOPER, Jean Elizabeth July 24, 1924 - January 31, 2006 Our beloved Mother, cherished Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and devoted friend Jean Cooper passed away peacefully at Chinook Care Centre on January 31, 2006. She will be deeply missed by her six children, George (Jane), Len (Pat), Jim (Bernice), Roger (Deborah), Alan and Heidi (Roger); her twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many close friends. Jean was predeceased by her husband of fifty-five years, Harry Edward Cooper; parents, Thomas and Julia Stevenson; and siblings, Norman, James and Hazel. Jean will be remembered for her many contributions to the United Church. She was an active member of the choir, the United Church Women's group, Friendship Club and took special pleasure with her role with the Church Cradle. Jean spent much of her married life supporting her husband Ed's Military career, often managing five energetic sons and a daughter on her own in Ed's absence. She relocated many times to Army Bases across Canada, spending most of her adult years in Borden, Ontario and in Calgary. Jean enjoyed traveling, especially to visit family, and frequently hosted friends from around the world. Jean lived life to the best of her ability and faced the challenges life dealt her with determination and independence until succumbing to her battle with Alzheimer's. The family extends their gratitude to the staff of Chinook Care Centre for the care and compassion they provided to Jean; we cannot thank you enough. "She left us quietly, her thoughts unknown, Leaving us a memory we are proud to own. So treasure her Lord, in your garden of rest. When with us on Earth, she was one of the Best. Until we meet again." A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew's United Church, with Reception to follow in the Church Hall (2035 - 26A Street S.W., Calgary) and Graveside Service to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens (17 Avenue and Lower Springbank Road S.W., Calgary).
