MUELLER Hartmut 1950 - 2006 Hartmut (Hart) Mueller, beloved husband of Maureen and father of Carla of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, March 25, after a courageous struggle with cancer. Hart was born just north of the city of Halle in the former East Germany, and immigrated with his family to Medicine Hat in 1953. Hart received his grade school education in Medicine Hat and completed his last year of high school in Edmonton. This was followed by a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Hart then taught at various levels in Irvine and Grimshaw, and later, in Calgary, at Clarence Sansom and Jack James High School. Typical of his enviable thirst for "living outside the box", he interrupted his teaching career to seek adventure in Kenya, and to explore various occupations in Edmonton and Red Deer. Life for him was always unscripted, always open to serendipity and meeting new people. His wandering came to a happy end with his marriage to Maureen, followed by the most joyous moment of his life, the birth of his daughter, Carla. Hart's desire for adventure was now fulfilled through many camping trips with Maureen and Carla. Books were another of his passions. He found it impossible to pass by any bookstore without spending money. There were never enough hours or days to do all the reading he wanted to do. Hart had a deep interest in learning, in understanding people, and in showing empathy for those in need. Besides his wife and daughter, he is survived by his mother, Linda Mueller of Medicine Hat; brother Harry of Calgary; brother Peter (Pat) of Medicine Hat; brother Udo (Emily) of St. Paul; sister Annelie Smith (Scott) of Calgary; and brother Edwin (Lisa) of Edmonton. He was predeceased by his father Otto Mueller of Medicine Hat in 2002. He also leaves to grieve, father and mother-in-law, Hank and Violet DiPersio of Sydney Mines, NS. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and sisters and brothers-in-law. A celebration of Hart's life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Saturday, April 1, 2006, at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com . If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Foothills Hospital, Bone Marrow Transplant - Unit 57, 1403 - 29 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta, T2N 2T9. In living memory of Hart, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH. Telephone: 403-276-2296.
