VOLLMERHAUS Matthias "Matt" 1965 - 2006 It is with great sadness that the family of Matthias Vollmerhaus announces his sudden passing on July 8, 2006. Matt was born on March 25, 1965 in Dudweiler, Germany. He came to Calgary in 1968 where he has resided ever since. Matt is survived by his loving parents, Annita and Jonathan Schaer and Walter and Joyce Vollmerhaus, all of Calgary. He also leaves behind two brothers and four sisters: Andreas Vollmerhaus (Lori) of Bragg Creek; Rainer Vollmerhaus (Pauline) of Caledon, Ont.; Astrid Mills (Andy) of Vancouver; Iris Reimer (Andrew) of Minna, Nigeria; Ingrid Willie (Michael) of Calgary and Claudia Schaer of New York. He was Uncle Matt to Lukas and Jakob Vollmerhaus; Jonathan, Kyrianna and Joshua Reimer and one-week-old Serenity Vollmerhaus. Matt is also remembered by his grandmother, Evelyn Wilson of Calgary; godmother Eva Vollmerhaus-Koschnik and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Germany and the U.S.A. Missing him greatly are his three adored cats, Einstein, Silver and Panther who are in need of a loving home. Matt will be remembered for his brilliant mind, BIG heart and his wry sense of humor. He cared deeply to help his family and friends. He was creative, determined, loving and loyal. Matt had a knack for turning an ordinary conversation into the philosophical and vice versa. He had a black belt in Kung Fu and had been a much-respected teacher of the art. He was proud of his impeccable, twenty-year professional driving record. Matt loved hiking in the Rockies, computer networking and animals, particularly his cats that he rescued from the street.
