CRAWFORD, Maurice Edward - Peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Thursday May 28, 2009 in his 88th year. Beloved husband of Margaret (Betty) for 63 years. Dear father of Peggy (Doug Smith) and Christine Urban of Winnipeg, Scott (Peggy) of Peterborough and Maureen (Waterloo). He is survived by his 7 grandchildren. His brother Ernest and four sisters Catherine, Florence, Marion and Etta-Jean predeceased him. His remaining sister Elsie Humphrey resides in Port Perry. Following graduation in 1940, he worked one month for the CPR in Kenora before joining a large contingent from Kenora who volunteered for service overseas. He served 5 1/2 years in Canada, England, Italy, Belgium and Holland. He was mentioned in Dispatches for Meritorious Service while serving in Italy. Following discharge in early 1946, he returned to college in Winnipeg for further education and later in the same year joined Domtar Packaging in finance, moving with the company from Winnipeg to Moncton and eventually retiring as Sales Manager in Peterborough in 1983. Blessed with a quick wit, honesty, integrity and a caring nature, Maurice greatly enhanced our world. Throughout his lifetime, he actively contributed his time and talents to his community and church. He was a member of Rotary International for 21 years and received a Paul Harris Award for his extensive contribution to humanity over many years. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Northminster United Church, Habitat for Humanity Peterborough or a charity of your choice. Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held at Northminster United Church, Sunset Blvd. on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 1 p.m. with a reception in the church hall to follow.
