LAST, Victor Vic (Retired Sargeant- Timmins Police Force) - The family announces with sorrow his death at Laurentian Hospital, Sudbury, Ont. on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at age 62 years. Beloved husband of Denise MacMillan. Son of late Yolande and Albert Last and matante mom Blanche Balkwill. Loving father of Rick (Amber) of Winnipeg, MB., Vicky Last( Steve) of Timmins and stepfather to Bruce MacMillan (Karine) of Porcupine. Cherished brother of Paul (Dolores) of Ottawa, Marie-Claire Coupal (Nereo) of Windsor, Carl (Marie-Andree) of London, Diane Smith (Gary) of Red Deer, AB. and Raymond (Melinda) of Winnipeg, MB. Dear brother-in-law of Carole Wigmore of Port Cartier, Qc., Doug Short of Sudbury, Ron Short (Nancy) of Timmins, Dee Dettman (Tom) of Ottawa and Melanie Hanam (John) of Fort McMurray, AB. Proud grandfather of Triston, Lizanne, Brandon, Katelyn and Evan and beloved uncle to Jonathan, Matthew, Kim, David, Ben, Lisanne, Lise, Chantal, J.P., Gidge and Nat. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles Roland and Pauline Proulx, Denise and Jerry Demers and Colombe Last. Pre- deceased by his sister Estelle Gagnon and brother Henri. Vic began his career with the Timmins Police Force as a constable in 1972 and eventually moved to the Criminal Investigation Section as well as the Indent. Section. From 1991 to 1994, Vic was the co-ordinator for Timmins Crimestoppers. During that time, he was instrumental in bringing the D.A.R.E. Program to the Timmins area and more importantly, developed it into the first bilingual D.A.R.E. program in North America. After 28 years, Vic retired from the force as Sargeant in September of 2000. He was also a proud member of the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. His true passions in life were his beloved wife Denise and spending his time at his Horwood Lake camp fishing and enjoying all that nature had to offer. He will be remembered for not only for his bravery as a police officer, but also for the bravery he showed when facing his short illness. He will be sorely missed by his family as well as his many friends and colleagues. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2009 from the Miron-Wilson Funeral Chapel. (Fr. Pat Lafleur officiating) Interment Timmins Memorial Cemetery.
