YELLAND , Jean 1920 - 2009 After a long life filled with happiness, Jean died at age 89 surrounded by her loving family. Four weeks ago, she was predeceased by Sherman, her husband of sixty-five years. Her brothers, Bernie, Mick and Neil Fluker also predeceased her. She is survived by her four children, Lois (Archie), Pegg (Neil), Lorne, and Norma (Hugh), eight-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a large extended family. Jean grew up on a farm near Fort Saskatchewan. In 1943, she graduated from the Edmonton General Hospital as a Registered Nurse and remained a nurse throughout her entire life. She particularly enjoyed her sixteen years as a store nurse at Woodward's and her volunteer work with the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton. She received a birthday card that so typified who she was. It read, "In every neighbourhood, there is a mom who everyone wishes was theirs... and she is mine." She loved spending time with her family and friends and will be deeply missed by them all. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Saturday, July 4 at 2:00 p.m. at McInnis and Holloway Crowfoot Chapel, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Calgary Alzheimer's Society (No. 201, 222 - 58 Avenue S.W., Calgary, T2H 2S3, info@alzheimercalgary.com).
