COLOSIMO, Philip 2009-08-11 November 11, 1927- August 8, 2009 Mr. Philip Colosimo, age 81, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, August 08, 2009, with his family by his side. Born November 14, 1927 in Fort William to Frank and Jenny Colosimo, Phil was a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay, graduating from Selkirk High School. He later joined the family grocery and dry cleaning businesses and stayed actively involved until his retirement in 2005 with the sale of the dry cleaning business. Phil had an extensive involvement with the community his entire life, giving his time and energy for the betterment of others. Deeply Christian, he was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish, and was a member of the Da Vinci Centre. In earlier years he and his brothers were very involved with stock car races at the CLE grounds; building and racing the cars as well as organizing the races. He was formerly involved with the Jay Cee’s, serving as President and Senator. He was an elected Trustee for the Catholic School Board for over four decades, serving as Chairman and many other capacities. His concern for the education of youth was a true passion for him, and he took great pride in not missing a single regular Board Meeting for over 40 years until his recent illness. He was also deeply involved with several Councils of the Knights of Columbus, and was a member of 4th Degree, and was a Past Grand Knight for Councils 1447 and 7332. He recently received a certificate for 53 years of service as a Knight, and he was also instrumental in establishing the Columbus Centre at its current site on May Street. His most recent passion was the Thunder Bay Food Bank, where he worked tirelessly, even through sickness, as a member of the Board of Directors and volunteer to provide food to those less fortunate. His family was always and important and integral part of his life, whether helping out with any family member project, enjoying the regular family dinner gatherings, or giving all a chance for a rare upset in a game of crib. Phil had a knack for all games of cards and chance, enjoying years of bridge, poker, or visits to the casino. Phil is survived by his wife and love Anita (Campaner), who together celebrated their 58th anniversary last week. Also survived by daughter Karen Kutchyera (Warren), sons Michael (Sandy), Paul and Mark; grandchildren Kristin, Colin (Nicole) Kutchyera, Jonathan Colosimo, Alison Tjong (Albert), and Tori Colosimo; brother Armand (Diane), as well as several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Jenny, as well as brothers Edward and Felix (in infancy). Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 12 2009 when friends and family gather for Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Patrick‘s Cathedral celebrated by Rev. Msgr. P.M. Stilla V.G. Interment will follow in St. Andrew‘s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Thunder Bay Food Bank on Miles St., or the Northern Cancer Foundation. A tree will be planted in memory of Philip Colosimo in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 27, 2010.
