John WELLS

WELLS, John O.M.I., Father, John Of Springhurst Oblate Residence, died at the General Campus of the Ottawa Hospital, Friday August 6, 1999. Son of the late John Leo Wells and Leah Marcoux. Father Wells was born in Detroit, MI, U.S.A. Survived by one brother William and two cousins Paul and Christine. Father Wells was ordained an Oblate Priest, October 9, 1955. After 10 years teaching and chaplaincy in Johannesburg, South Africa, John returned to Canada to become a staff member of Holy Rosary Scholasticate. He pursued graduate studies in Theology in Marquette University beginning in 1968. He was a co-pastor at Canadian Martyrs Parish in Ottawa from 1974. Father Wells was a valued formator of young Oblates and was very much involved in the Lonergan Workshops in Boston for the past 14 years. He retired from active ministry in 1997. Friends may pay respects Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Canadian Martyrs Church, 100 Main Street, Ottawa. Vigil Service Tuesday at 7 p.m. Concelebrated Mass of Christian Funeral Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. Interment St. Theresa's Cemetery, Arnprior.
