Delbert Wagner Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Del Wagner on Sunday, August 8, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer. Del passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. Beloved husband and soul mate of Amy, proud Dad of son Rick and wife Marg of Vancouver, daughter Leslie and husband Bill Robertson, and his most precious granddaughter, Chloe. Del was born in Edmonton, Alberta and moved to Winnipeg in his teens. Del was an exceptionally talented, respected and loved musician in Winnipeg. His career began in the early 1950’s with Marsh Phimister at Jack’s Place. Del played in many nightclubs in Winnipeg, had his own show singing and dancing, and was the drummer in the Al Sprintz band for many years at the Club Morocco. Del also had his own trio at Koko’s and a duo with Don Kissick. He was proud to be a member of the Winnipeg Musicians’ Association Local 190 for 50 years. Del’s musical talents were featured on numerous television networks, and he was profiled in the documentary entitled “Prairie Soul” by the Canadian National Film Board. Del was a mentor and drum teacher to many young music students in Winnipeg. Many of these students kept in touch with him throughout the years considering him to be one of the most influential people in their lives. Del touched countless people with his music, his love, and his deep interest in their well-being. Besides music, Del also loved golf. He was an active member of the Bel Acres and Breezy Bend Golf and Country Clubs for a number of years. He worked at Harbour View and then at Kildonan Park Golf Course. After retiring in 1996, Del and Amy moved to Calgary, AB to be close to their beloved granddaughter, Chloe. Del took great pleasure in watching his granddaughter grow up. Chloe spent many happy days with her Papa. In Calgary, Del continued working in golf at the Priddis Golf and Country Club, where he met many wonderful people. Two of the highlights in Del’s golf career were winning a Winnipeg Municipal Golf Tournament and shooting an incredible 67 at Tuxedo Park Golf Course. Del was predeceased by his father Walter, brother Donald, mother Zena and stepfather Piercy Haynes. Del will be sadly missed by his loving wife Amy, and his beloved children Rick, Marg, Leslie and Bill and his granddaughter, Chloe, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Many thanks to the wonderful and caring staff of Palliative Home Care, especially Dr. A. Boyer and nurse Barbara Kearns for their compassionate care. Our thanks and gratitude are also extended to the staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and to Dr. P. Lakra. If so desired memorial tributes may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre (1331-29 Street NW, Calgary, AB T2N 4M2). A Memorial Service will be held in Winnipeg on Saturday, August 21, 2004 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. “Rest in Peace our Beloved Del - Husband, Dad, Papa, Friend and Mentor” Arrangements entrusted to: LEYDEN’S FUNERAL HOME 304-18 Ave. SW, Calgary, AB T2S 0C3 Tel. 403-228-4422
