George Elwood Vaugh

WAUGHMr. George - 1923-2016 George Elwood Waugh, surrounded by the love of his family, passed away on Friday, June 24th, at La Maison au Diapason in Bromont, Quebec at the ripe old age of 93. He was the son of Christopher Waugh and Elizabeth Sarah Murray. Predeceased by his darling wife, Elizabeth 'Betty' (nee Ross), he leaves to mourn his daughter Heidi (Glenn Hunchak) and son Andrew (Virginia Wallace), extended family, and many friends. Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, George proudly served in Italy with the Canadian Army during World War II. After the war, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto. George, with an offer of employment from the Miner Rubber Company as a chemical engineer, moved to Granby, Quebec in 1950. At the invitation of a co-worker, he joined the choir of Granby United Church, where he met the love of his life, Betty, whom he married in 1954. Together, they raised 2 children, were active members of their church, avid volunteers, and enthusiastic square-dancers with the Brome Squares. He was an eternal optimist who had a kind word for all, a great sense of humour, and could be counted on to help out when needed. George stated that he had lived a full and happy life with no regrets. He was loving and loved, and will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. The service to celebrate George's life will be held on Saturday, July 30th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Granby United Church, 101 Principale St. in Granby, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The family would like to thank the staff in the Palliative Care Unit at the Centre hospitalier de Granby, the staff of the CLSC Haute-Yamaska, and the caring volunteers and staff of La Maison au Diapason. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of George can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and/or La Fondation au Diapason.
