Funeral services for longtime Hearst resident Hervé J. Laurin, 76, of 1218 Edward St. were held June 3, 2002. He died May 30 at Notre-Dame Hospital following a lengthy illness just two weeks before his birthday. Born June 13, 1925 in Jogues, he worked at Newaygo Timber in Mead for 33 years and then as a Lévesque Lumber machine operator until 1989. A fourth-degree Hearst Knight of Columbus, member of the Club soleil des aîné-e-s seniors club and an avid sports fan, he enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and his cottage. Family described him as a practical joker who loved to laugh. Predeceased by his parents, a daughter Solange Girard of Atikokan in 1999, four sisters, four brothers, and many sisters-and-brothers-in-law, he leaves: his wife Pauline (née Roy) Laurin of Hearst, sons Denis of Windsor, Réjean (Huguette) and Ronald (Lucie) Laurin, all of Hearst, and daughters Vivianne (Noël) Lanouette of Evain, Quebec, and Rosanne (Yvon) Nolet of Mattice. Also surviving are a sister Lilianne Tremblay of Hull, Que., brothers Jean-Paul (Laurette), Alfred, and Maurice (Madeleine) Laurin, all of Hearst, as well as 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Rev. Rémi Lessard officiated the service, assisted by five other priests, at the Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Cathedral. Interment followed at the Monseigneur Grenier Cemetery.
