Gerald Glenwood FANNING

Gerald Glenwood Fanning - September 19, 1914 - May 01, 2004 89, Halifax, passed away May 1, 2004, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. The family of Gerald Glenwood Fanning has the regretable task of announcing his passing in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII, surrounded by his family. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Born in Hazel Hill, Guysborough Co., he was a son of the late Hattie (Feltmate) and Joseph Fanning. Also lost before his passing were his sisters, Hope, Kate and Evelyn; brothers, Beverly, Alan, Roy and Erle. He was also predeceased by his wife of 36 years, Edith Muriel (Young). Gerald is survived by stepson, Gordon (Judy), Truro; grandsons, Douglas (Jo-Anne), Eastern Passage; Richard, Calgary; Gordon, Truro; great-grandsons, Timothy, Nicholas, Eastern Passage; Christopher, Truro. Retiring after 27 years with Canada Post he also worked as a plumber, fisherman and farmer. Gerald served overseas during the Second World War as a wireless operator and gunner with RAF Bomber Command. He completed his tours of duty with distinction being mentioned in dispatch to King George VI. He lived to work with his hands and had amongst his hobbies woodworking, gardening and his favorite, trout fishing. His family would like to take the opportunity to mention and thank the staff of 8.1 Ward, QEII during this difficult time. There will be no visitation, however there will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Families Education Award Fund at the Fanning Education Center, Hazel Hill.
