Penard Hervig HILDAHL

Hildahl: Penard Hervig Hildahl. It is with sadness we announce the passing of Penard Hervig Hildahl on January 4, 2002 at the Drumheller Nursing Home. Penard was born on June 7, 1918 at Carsland Alberta, the first of seven children born to Elise and Andrew Hildahl. He attended school and worked locally until he was called to duty in the Second World War. On October 30, 1942, he married Mary Louise Harriman in a small ceremony in Vancouver. During the war, he served in the Royal Canadian Navy until 1944. Following his service in the navy, he and Mary moved to the Morrin area where they raised their six children and he farmed until 1999. Penard remained active in the Royal Canadian Legion, maintaining his membership until his passing. He particularly enjoyed his involvement with the Remembrance Day ceremonies and the school programs in connection with the ceremonies. He drove school bus for many years and was very involved in various community activities and programs. Penard and Mary celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary just prior to MaryÕs passing in 1997. Penard leaves to mourn his six children; Bev (Brian) McIntosh from Kamloops B.C., Harvey (Wendy) from Drayton Valley A.B., Penny (Gordon) England from Prince George B.C., Frances (Bob) Avramenko from Calgary A.B., Peter (Hazeline) from Lethbridge A.B., Ellen (Jim) Moore from Airdrie A.B, fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, sisters Marie Teare, Esther Brown and Elna Harrison and brother Tom Hildahl. He was predeceased by his wife Mary, parents Elise and Andrew, and sisters Ruth Brown and Lois Slack. Penard's family was always his pride and joy and they will miss him greatly. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 8, 2002, at 2:00pm in the Morrin Community Hall with Pastor Skip MacArthur officiating. A private interment for both Penard and Mary will be at the Strathmore Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Friends of the Colonel Belcher (10101 Southport Road SW, Calgary, AB, T2W 3N2), Alzheimer's Society of Alberta (220, 2323 32 Avenue NE, Calgary, AB, T2E 6Z3), or a charity of your choice.
