YOUNG, Mary Frances (nee Baldwin) -Peacefully on November 17, 2002 at Fairhaven Nursing Home in Peterborough in her 87th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend John (Jack) Alexander Irwin Young. Loving mother of Alex (Michelle) of North York, Greg (Anne) of Omemee, Barbara of Toronto, Donald (Jennifer) of Toronto, William (Thérèse) of Oakville. Dear grandmother of Robert and Mary Anne, Jonathan and Christopher, Annika and Eryn. Dear sister of Peggy Faught (deceased) and Barbara Anderson. Born May 14, 1916 in Montreal, Mary grew up in Vancouver. Mary graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1938 with a B.Sc. (H.Ec.). She was a High School teacher from 1938 to 1942, first in Creston B.C. and then Vancouver. In 1942 Mary became the first provincial nutritionist appointed by the B.C. Board of Health. Mary and Jack married in 1945 and moved to London, Ontario where Jack attended the University of Western Ontario, eventually settling in Peterborough. Mary was a founding member of the Peterborough Unitarian Fellowship. Her strong sense of civic duty lead her to serve several terms as a trustee on the Peterborough Board of Education and as Chairwoman of the Peterborough and Ontario Home and School Associations. She was a founding member of the Family Enrichment Association. She received the provincial Lamp of Learning Award for her contribution to education in Ontario. The family would like to thank the staff at Fairhaven for the care they provided during her stay. There will be a private internment at Little Lake Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held in January 2003. In lieu of flowers donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated. 11/20/2002- ID1083150 - Peterborough Examiner
